What you should absolutely know about Lyon

City highlights, food & drinks, expressions, weather, how to get there and how to get around

Lyon used to be the capital of France during the Roman Empire. During your Lyon day trips, spend your days lounging in the sunshine, indulging in peasant delicacies and breathing in the alpine-fresh air among the luscious pine trees. Wander around the city center, gazing at the pastel pink buildings. Trek through Lyon’ mountainous terrain on your way to the French Alps. Visit some of Lyon’ outstanding museums, groove to the beat at vibrant clubs, and enjoy the city’s bustling nightlife. Learn about history as you wander around medieval and Renaissance architecture or take a river cruise along the Rhône & Saône rivers

Visit Notre Dame de Fourviere church, one of the most visited sacred places in France for both the beautiful ecclesiastical architecture and stunning views. Buy fresh produce at Lyon Outdoor Market and relax at the lovely Parc de la Tete d’Or

Lyon is hailed as “the stomach of France”- and for a very good reason. Indulge in artisan breads and buttery croissants and snack on a plethora of different wines and cheeses after dinner. Dine on cheesy Quenelles and juicy andouillette

“Bonjour” is French for “Hello” or “Good day”. “Au Revoir” means “Goodbye” and “Merci” is “Thank you”. To ask someone if they speak English, ask “Parlez-vous anglais?” and to ask someone how they are, ask “comment allez-vous?” “Oui” is French for “Yes” and “Non” means “No”

Weather in the Lyon brings comfortable summer temperatures in the upper 70s and cooling rain. Fall is a gorgeous season, with breezy and warm weather. The winter season brings freezing weather and cold wind. Spring temperatures range from chilly to fine, clear, sunny days

The city is located from 15 miles from the airport and is easily accessible by bus for around 9 Euros. Taxis are also a good option, but a little more pricey at 40 Euros. Take the Rhone Express Train for 14 Euros

Lyon is easily accessible by trams, taxis, and trains. Renting a car is fairly easy, but a little expensive at 60 Euros per day. Most attractions can also be reached on foot or travel on the river in style on a ferry
